13.And Just Like That, Indonesia Is Done!

It feels like every time I write a blog post we are changing our plans… well, you guessed it, we changed our plans again! Long story short, I’ve been killing Bianca. Not in a quick and painless kind of way, more like a prisoner of war style drawn out beating. We have been soldiering on pretty relentlessly, at one point we cycled 8 days in a row, almost topping 500km and 3,500m ascent. There will be times where we do this type of work again. But we are still only a few weeks in. And the heat can’t be overstated. So we determined that, without some serious track surfing help, this was probably unsustainable. So, problem solving began and this is what we came up with; head north from Jambi to a coastal town called Kuala Tungkal where a ferry takes you to the island of Batam, just south of Singapore. Then we get the bonus of seeing Singapore (which wasn’t in our plans) and then head up to do some diving and enjoy some time out of the saddle, before leaving our bikes somewhere safe and gett...

12.Building the Kilometres, Enjoying the Flavours

After our last day off, we had changed our plan and decided to go towards Palembang and use the main highway to move through Sumatra. This was due entirely to time constraints. We planned out the next week or so, learning the lessons from previous challenging days, to ensure there was a better than 50% chance to find accommodation in the planned end points each day. This unfortunately, meant there was no choice but to face a 100km+ day right off the bat, followed by a likely 50km+ at least. Easy does it.

11.Finding Our Routine… Slowly

Forming a new routine can be tough. We are in an unfamiliar time zone, in an unfamiliar climate, doing an unfamiliar daily activity. All while trying to find familiarity. For those of you following our YouTube daily videos ( https://www.youtube.com/@OurBumpyWay ) , you’ll probably know we are starting to finally develop a new routine. It goes something like this;
